Installation of chestnut fencing explained:
Installing chestnut fencing yourself is not difficult. The instructions on how to install chestnut fencing will quickly get you started to easily install your fencing yourself.
Step 1) Prepare the necessary materials and tools:
The chestnut fences and chestnut posts, Stainless steel screws or staples, an auger (motorised or not), a spade, a drill, a wooden hammer, a saw, long measuring tape or string, wire pliers
Step 2) Installation of the chestnut posts:
- The most commonly used chestnut posts have a diameter of 8-10 cm. in. Normally, posts are placed every 2 m. For chestnut fencing higher than 1.5m and with a narrower batten spacing, the posts are placed less closely together.
- Level the area where the fencing is to be installed.
- Stretch a wire or ribbon in tight straight line just above the ground.
- Drill a hole at both corners. The posts should be about 1.5x as high as the fence, which means the holes should be drilled a little less than 1/3 of the post length. Make sure that the diameter of the auger does not exceed the thickness of the posts
- Place the chestnut corner posts in the holes and hammer them deep enough with a wooden mallet for strength. Keep the height of the top iron winding wire of the fence for the top of the post.
- Measure out the exact location of the intermediate posts. Place these chestnut posts in the same way as the corner posts.
Step 3) Installation of chestnut fencing:
Unroll the fence and mount the first batten with staples or screws on the first corner post. When doing so, make sure you place the trellis with the points facing upwards. At each successive post, stretch the fencing well.
Tensioning during installation of chestnut fencing
For tensioning, you can use a spade and place it between the post and a chestnut slat. When doing so, keep the spade as much as possible at the height of one of the iron wires to avoid buckling the fence.
Step 4) Connecting 2 rolls of chestnut fencing:
First, remove the last slat from the last placed roll. Do this by using the wire pliers to unscrew the iron wires. Then place the first slat of the new roll between the loose ends and tighten the iron wire again.
Step 5) Installation of bracing posts:
The final step in installing chestnut fencing. For extra strength, you can choose to brace the fencing with chestnut brace posts. The heads of the bracing posts are cut at an angle. Drill an angled hole in the ground and place the shoring posts with the sawn-off heads against the upright chestnut posts.
